International activity of the National Technical University "Kharkiv Politechnical Institute"

In 2011 the international affairs of National Technical University "Kharkov Polytechnical Institute" had celebrated its 83 years.

Now NTU "KhPI" continues to consolidate and expand its contacts with 108 foreign partners with 33 countries of the world (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Vietnam, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, India, Spain, Italy, China, Korea, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, the USA, Hungary, France, Sweden, Vietnam, Georgia, Tajikistan and other countries).

Most dynamically and productively relation are being developed with Magdeburg Otto-von-Guericke university (Germany), Klagenfurt university (Austria), University Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux (France), Miskolc University (Hungary), Patrician university (Romania), University of the State of Iowa (USA), Manchester university (Great Britain), Technical university Hamburg - Garburg (Germany), National technical university of Athens (Greece), the Berlin Humboldt university (Germany).

The moment of signing by the NTU «KhPI» rector Prof. L. Tovazhnjansky the Great Charter of Universities («Magna Charta Universitatum) in September, 2005 in a higher educational institution of Europe Bolonian University (Italy) became the important stage in the university life. In March, 2007 NTU "KhPI" joins the European association of universities as an equal individual member. Since September, 2007 NTU "KhPI" is a member of the Black sea countries universities Network, and since March, 2009 is a member the Eurasian association of universities. These events became the important step for integration of the university in unified European and world educational space.

The number of international grants awarded by different international funds and programs testify to the recognition of NTU "KhPI". The purpose of this program is the integration into the world economic system, attraction into an educational sphere of Ukraine of foreign investments.

Now at university are being implemented into the university 28 international projects the general sum of its financing is 3.5 mil. Euro. From them 18 are educational and 10 - scientific projects.

To provide the assistance in preparation of educational and scientific projects as well as search for partners, at the basis of International Relations Department of the University and on initiative of Hamburg University of Technology the Consortium Coordinative Centre "EC-Ukraine" was established (Tempus project "High schools consortium "EU –Ukraine" and continually functioning coordinative centre of consortium"). After the end of the project due to its successful activity, the Consortium Coordinative Centre was officially acknowledged by university administration and became the structural unit of International Relations Department. In 2008 the Center was renamed into Fundraising Group. The most important functions of the Group are coordination, initiation, planning and realization of joint national and international projects. The members of the Group maintain the informative and consulting base at the university via the information dissemination about the possibilities of participation in international educational and scientific programs. With this purpose the data base of programs was created; there is permanently updating web-site http://www.ec.kharkiv.edu; there is an active mailing list.

In 2003 with Magdeburg Otto-von-Guericke University (Germany) support in NTU "KhPI" the German technical department for training students in mechanical engineering and electromechanical engineering was founded. Education at department is lead in Germany. The best students of the department have the possibility to be trained in German higher educational institutions.

In the spheres of the international activity the Center of preparation of foreign citizens Ukraine - French Center and the Ukrainian-American Business Center functions in NTU "KhPI", which co-ordinates contacts with France and the USA, the Regional Center of preparation managers and the Center energy saving integral technologies, Center "Prospect".

Annually on the university base more than 30 international scientifically – technical conferences, large international forums, presentations and exhibition are conducted. The university constantly takes part in the international exhibitions abroad.

More than 400 scientific employees, teachers, students and post-graduate students of university every year leave abroad for scientific work and training, for participation in conferences, symposiums etc., for training and a language course leaves. More than 300 foreign experts, students and post-graduates per a year receive the university.

The department of International Affairs has been in existence since 1980. The basic direction of its activity is:

• To coordination of the departments’ international activities and others university subdivisions
• To development and implement the international projects
• Work under contracts with institutions of higher educational and firms abroad
• To coordinate the international exchange Programs of teachers, post-graduates and students
• Information - consulting services
• The Exchange of delegations
• Granting of boundary services
• Registration of foreign documents
• Organization of a summer language course
• Organization of summer practice of students’ abroad (France, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Germany)
• Execution of other problems connected with the international activity.

For active international cooperation NTU "KhPI" has been repeatedly recognized as one of the best universities, both in the region, and in Ukraine as a whole.
