NTU «KhPI» is the leader among technical universities in Ukraine in THE 2025 ranking

The National Technical University «KhPI» continues to take a leading position among domestic universities in the influential international ranking The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THE) 2025. According to its data, Kharkiv Polytechnic is represented in nine THE categories and has once again become the leader among Ukrainian higher education institutions in the field of «industry, innovation, and infrastructure» and second in the category of «quality of education.» In the overall list, Kharkiv Polytechnic (ranked 1001-1500) was recognized as the best technical higher education institution in Eastern Ukraine. This is the best indicator for NTU «KhPI» in this ranking in all years of participation. THE included 2318 universities from 130 countries around the world, 55 of which are Ukrainian.

 The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THE) 2025 is the seventh edition of the world’s only influential university ranking that assesses universities based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). THE takes into account carefully calibrated indicators and compares universities across four broad areas: research, management, outreach, and learning. THE evaluates universities in 17 different areas and produces an overall ranking.

This year, the National Technical University «KhPI» participated in nine categories and achieved the best results in the following areas:

  • SDG category 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure – ranked 401–600 globally and 1st among Ukrainian higher education institutions;
  • SDG 4: Quality education – ranked 401-600 globally and 2nd among Ukrainian higher education institutions;
  • SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth – ranked 401-600 globally and 5th among Ukrainian higher education institutions;
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals (mandatory area) – ranked 801-1000 globally and 4th among Ukrainian higher education institutions.

As a result of these achievements, the NTU «KhPI’s overall rating rose to 59.6 points (the maximum rating is 100), it ranked 1001-1500 and was recognized as the best technical higher education institution in Eastern Ukraine. This is the university’s best result in this ranking in all the years of its participation. In general, only three universities received the best positions among Ukrainian higher education institutions, including the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute.»

The top places in the world ranking are traditionally taken by universities in Australia, Great Britain, Denmark, Canada, and the United States.

Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings is the only global ranking that assesses the global success of universities in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the rules, each university had the opportunity to select at least four goals from a list of 17 categories and provide official information on these issues. The ranking uses carefully calibrated indicators to ensure a comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, management, outreach, and learning.

In 2025, the overall Times Higher Education Impact Rankings include 2,318 universities from 130 countries around the world. This is 355 universities and five countries more than last year. The number of Ukrainian higher education institutions included in the overall ranking has increased to 55 (+13 universities). This indicates the growing influence of this ranking and the increased attention it receives from universities around the world.
