Challenges of modern civilization from A to Z – at an international philosophy conference at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute

The National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» hosted the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference «Philosophy in the Modern World,» dedicated to World Philosophy Day. More than 100 scientists from Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Israel, France, China, Greece, and Turkey participated in the event. The conference covered a range of topical issues, including philosophical problems of science, education, artificial intelligence, and cultural traditions of Ukraine and the modern world.

The VI International Scientific and Practical Conference «Philosophy in the Modern World» was organized by the Department of Philosophy of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Social and Humanitarian Technologies of the National Technical University «KhPI». At the beginning of the forum, all participants were greeted by the director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Social and Humanitarian Technologies of the National Technical University «KhPI» and the president of the Public Organization «Academy of Military History and Cossacks,» Professor Andrii Kipenskyi, the head of the Department of Philosophy at NTU «KhPI», Olga Gorodyska, and Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Philosophy at NTU «KhPI», Olga Dolska.

The program includes Olga Dolska, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Philosophy at NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute». The conference included several sections devoted to issues of science and technology, education and personality, artificial intelligence, globalism and multiculturalism, as well as philosophical analysis of economic and environmental challenges and issues of spiritual and physical health of the nation. In general, the conference highlighted philosophical, anthropological, cultural, and political-legal trends in the development of modern civilization and Ukrainian society.

Participants noted: «The topics of the presentations sparked lively discussion, creating a vibrant and sincere atmosphere of genuine interest.» The following presentations were given:

  • Mykhailo Boichenko, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Theoretical and Practical Philosophy at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Chief Research Fellow at the Department of History and Philosophy of Education at the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine;
  • Nadiya Korabliova, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Theoretical and Practical Philosophy at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University,;
  • Viktor Malakhov, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor at the Independent Institute of Philosophy in Paris, France,;
  • Krissy Sidiropou, Dr. of Science, Professor of Philosophy and Greek Language at Bogazici University (Bosphorus University) in Istanbul, Turkey;
  • Regina Andriukaitienė, Doctor of Science in Management, Professor of the Department of Sports and Tourism Management, Lithuanian Sports University, Head of the Department of Business and Economics at Marijampolė College (Lithuania)
  • Jacek Moroz, Doctor of Science, Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute of Pedagogy at the University of Szczecin, Szczecin, Poland,.

The event also included a Round Table discussion with comprehensive presentations by:

  • Vladimir Voznyak, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, and Political Science named after Professor Valery Skotny, Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University of Drohobych.
  • Vladimir Shapoval, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Humanities and Ukrainian Studies at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs;
  • Vira Lymonchenko, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science named after Professor Valery Skotny, Drohobych State Pedagogical University named after Ivan Franko, and many other scholars.

Postgraduate students from the Department of Philosophy at the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Technologies at NTU «KhPI» and the Department of Theory of Culture and Philosophy of Science of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philosophy, Cultural Studies, and Political Science of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, and the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In total, more than 100 scientists participated in the conference, including representatives from Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Israel, France, China, Greece, and Turkey.

The VI International Scientific and Practical Conference «Philosophy in the Modern World» was held on November 21-23, 2025, at the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute.» The forum, dedicated to World Philosophy Day, is held annually in November by the Department of Philosophy of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Social and Humanitarian Technologies of Kharkiv Polytechnic University. The first edition of «Philosophy in the Modern World» took place in 2014 in the format of a city-wide interuniversity scientific and practical seminar. In 2018, the conference reached national scale, and in 2020 it transformed from All-Ukrainian to International. The conference reports are published in a collection of scientific works in the electronic repository of the Scientific and Technical Library of NTU «KhPI».

World Philosophy Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of November, as stipulated by UNESCO (UNESCO General Conference). The main goal is to make philosophy more accessible to everyone, find a common platform for discussing global socio-cultural transformations, and stimulate public debate among thinkers and civil society on the challenges facing society today. On this day, UNESCO calls for the organization of various events, such as philosophical discussions, debates, conferences, master classes, cultural events, and presentations. In 2025, this day will be celebrated on 20 November.
