NTU «KhPI» together with scientists from Ukraine and the USA held an international conference on the problems of social development in a changing society

The National Technical University «KhPI» hosted the third International Scientific and Practical Conference «Actual Problems of Social Development in a Society of Changes». Participants from Ukraine and the United States discussed topics important to both countries. Presentations by scholars in Ukrainian and English were devoted to the pedagogical culture of university professors around the world; virtual school leaders’ views on community and equality in a changing society; student rights and trans education policy in a society of conflict, etc. The conference brought together more than 100 scientists and students from Ukrainian universities. It was organized by Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of Management of Social Systems of Academician I. A. Zyazyun of Kharkiv Polytechnic, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.

At the plenary session, all conference participants were greeted by Professor Dmytro Gorovyi, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Education of NTU «KhPI», and Professor Nina Pidbutska, Head of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of Social Systems Management (PSSM) of NTU «KhPI». At the forum, scientists from Ukraine and the United States discussed topics important to both countries. They noted the ambitious goal of the conference, which can be realized by combining the experience of scientists and practitioners not only from Ukraine. It was emphasized that the forum should be a significant step in the development of humanities and human resources, as well as facilitate the exchange of views between young and experienced scholars, and maintain the link between science and practice.

The Third International Scientific and Practical Conference «Actual Problems of Social Development in a Society of Changes» was organized by the Department of PPUSS of NTU «KhPI». It was attended by more than 100 scientists and students of higher education institutions of Ukraine, who made interesting and relevant reports in Ukrainian and English. Professors from the United States also joined the forum.

Thus, the professors of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of Management of Social Systems of Academician I. A. Zyazyun for 25 years, Oleksandr Romanovskyi and its head Nina Pidbutska, spoke about the activities of the Department. Joseph Mukuni (USA) shared his own experience of studying the features of the pedagogical culture of teachers from different countries. From Sarah K. Warnick and Carol A. Mullen, the forum participants learned how virtual school leaders see community and equality in a changing society. The presentations provoked a lively discussion: «Student Rights and the Politics of Trans Education in a Society of Conflict» (Jessica K. Weimos-Herman, Carol A. Mullen), «Extending Liminal Leadership in Space and Time: Spatio-Temporal Literacy and Active Aspects of Place in Times of Conflict» (Charles L. Lowry), «We Are the People» (Charles L. Lowry), «We will not allow ourselves to be defeated: a multilevel qualitative study of older Hispanic adults with chronic pain in community-based services in Massachusetts, USA» (Natalia Giraldo-Santiago).

The Third International Scientific and Practical Conference «Actual Problems of Social Development in a Society of Changes» was held on 27-29 March, 2025. It was dedicated to the 140th anniversary of NTU «KhPI» and the 25th anniversary of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of Management of Social Systems of Academician I. A. Zyazyun of Kharkiv Polytechnic. 

Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of Management of Social Systems of Academician I. A. Zyazyun at NTU «KhPI» is the first and only department in Ukraine among technical universities that focuses on leadership and management training at different levels of education. It trains specialists in the following areas: administrative management, higher education pedagogy, and psychology. Since 2000, the department has been running a scientific school of leadership «Formation of a Leader’s Personality in Science, Education, and Business».
