Scientists from NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» presented innovative approaches to the development of nuclear energy

Representatives of the Department of Steam Generator Engineering and the Department of Computer Mathematics and Data Analysis of the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute»: Alexander Yefimov, Valeryi Kaverzov, Igor Sidorkin, and Tetiana Potanina became the participants of the VII International Conference «High-Purity Materials: Production, Application, Properties». The event was dedicated to the memory of the renowned Ukrainian physicist and academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Volodymyr Azhazha. The forum became an important platform for exchanging experiences and discussing new solutions in the field of nuclear safety and protection of nuclear facilities.

Among the topics discussed at the three-day VII International Conference «High-Purity Materials: Production, Application, Properties» were: methods of deep purification; production of high-purity metals and alloys; use of high-purity metals and alloys in nuclear and thermonuclear energy; high-purity semiconductor materials in electronics and optoelectronics; high-purity metals and their isotopes; physical and nuclear-physical methods of elemental analysis of impurities in metals and alloys; structural features and physical properties of high-purity metals and alloys; physics of radiation and ion-plasma technologies.

The scientific event was attended by the head of department, associate professor, and PhD student of the Department of Steam Generator Engineering of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Energy, Electronics, and Electromechanics of the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute»: Alexander Yefimov, Valeryi Kaverzov, and Igor Sidorkin. In addition, Tetiana Potanina, professor of the Department of Computer Mathematics and Data Analysis at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Sciences and Information Technologies, joined the conference. From the team of authors at NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» (O.V. Yefimov, T.V. Potanina, I.D. Sidorkin) with a report entitled «Application of small modular reactor technologies as part of future energy systems» Igor Sidorkin, a third-year PhD student at the Department of Steam Generator Engineering, gave a presentation.

During the conference, participants discussed systemic preconditions for establishing research cooperation, intensifying joint scientific activities, and the participation of joint research teams in international scientific and academic projects, including IAEA, UAinEuratom, WINS, etc. They also talked about responding to the challenges of war and global trends in the development of safe nuclear energy. The forum became an important platform for sharing experiences in innovative research on nuclear safety, NPP operation, and the protection of modern and promising nuclear facilities and radioactive materials from external and internal threats. According to the participants of the event, the results will contribute to the development of scientific and academic activities of the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» in the field of nuclear energy and the training of PhD students in specialties related to this field.

The VII International Conference «High-Purity Materials: Production, Application, Properties» was organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Scientific Center «Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology», and V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
