About Department

The department was created in 1930 by Professor Pavel Petrovich Kopnyaev, the founder of the electrical engineering school in Ukraine, and is one of the oldest departments of the Kharkov Polytechnic Institute.

Graduates of the department receive thorough training in:

computer programming and modeling;
computer technology;
automatic control theories;
electric drive theories;
control systems for electric drives of machines and mechanisms;
electronics devices, microcircuitry, robotics, mechatronics;
microprocessor systems;
intelligent control systems;
energy saving by means of adjustable electric drive;
computerized electric vehicle systems, etc.

Participation of the department in international projects of the European Union together with universities in France, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria involves studying and defending a second diploma in one of the participating countries.

The department’s specialization relates to the field of converting electrical energy into mechanical energy using devices, which include: computers, semiconductor electrical energy converters, electric motors, devices and measurements, controls and automation, electronic and intelligent regulators.

The electric drive consumes about 70% of all generated electricity. It is an effective means of saving energy resources due to its ability to optimize technological processes.

The department carries out a lot of theoretical and practical work on the development and creation of modern energy-efficient electric drives of machines and mechanisms.
