About Department
The Department of Multimedia and Internet Technologies and Systems trains bachelors, masters and PhD students in the specialty 123 – Computer Engineering – in the original educational program “Applied Computer Engineering”.
The head of the department is Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, Laureate of State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology Poroshin Sergey Mikhaylovich.
The department was formed on September 23, 2022 by the merger of two departments – Multimedia Information Technologies and Systems (established in 2004) and Internet of Things (established in 2009). The two departments have interacted since 2017 in the single interdepartmental educational program “Applied Computer Engineering” (ACE), which they elaborated and implemented in the educational process initially in the Faculty of Computer Information Technology (CIT) and continue to develop in the Educational and Research Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT). The unity of views on the formation of the educational program and the positive experience of joint work of the two departments (in the summer of 2022 there was the first graduation of bachelors and successful enrollment in the master’s program in ACE) have led to their unification.
The department consists of 6 professors, 6 associate professors, 6 senior lecturers, 2 assistants, including 3 doctors and 13 candidates of technical sciences.
The teachers of the department are members of professional associations, employees of IT companies, Cisco Academy Instructors, are involved in the expertise of national and international scientific, technical and educational projects, conduct scientific work, publish monographs and articles in professional journals and publications indexed in Scopus, participate in scientific and professional forums.
The department is connected by many years of scientific and technical cooperation with the O. Ya. Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National University of Air Force. The department in 2012 established and annually held the International Scientific and Technical Conference “Information problems of the theory of acoustic, radioelectronic and telecommunication systems” (IPST).
The leading scientific school of the department is headed by Prof. Lev Grigorievich Raskin, Doctor of Technical Sciences, known in Ukraine and abroad scientist in the field of systems analysis, theory of complex systems, optimal control and operations research. Recently Professor Lev Raskin has been awarded two international diplomas of the Oxford Academic Union (as the best scientist of the year in 2015 for the solution of Chebyshev’s problem and in 2019 for the best solution of Hamiltonian problem).
At the origin of the department, together with S.M. Poroshin and L.G. Raskin, were scientists of the L. A. Govorov Military Radio Engineering Academy in the field of coherent optics, radio engineering and radio wave propagation, Doctors of Technical Sciences, Professors V. I. Karpenko, B. N. Bakhvalov, A. V. Polyarus, V. D. Karlov, and I. G. Leonov.
