According to the results of one of the most prestigious global university rankings, QS World University Rankings 2024, National Technical University «KhPI» continues to occupy a leading position among domestic universities, entering the top 5 Ukrainian higher education institutions. During the 11 years of participation in this ranking, Kharkiv Polytechnic improved its indicators twice. In total, QS World University Rankings 2024 evaluated almost three thousand universities from one hundred and four countries of the world. Only 11 universities from Ukraine were represented.
This year, the organizers of the QS World University Rankings innovated by introducing new indicators. They reflected changes in the mission of universities and the most important priorities of students. The ranking now assesses sustainability, employment outcomes and international research collaboration, with added emphasis on research, inventions, employer reputation, and learning experience. According to the new methodology, the activity of universities is now ranked according to nine indicators instead of the previous six.
The top 5 Ukrainian higher education institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2024, in addition to the National Technical University «KhPI», include: KNU named after T. Shevchenko, KhNU named after V.N. Karazin, NTUU «Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute», National University «Lviv Polytechnic».
The leader of the ranking became the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA).

QS World University Rankings is one of the most prestigious international university rankings. This year it celebrates its 20th anniversary. Previously, universities were evaluated according to six indicators: reputation in the academic environment; citation of scientific publications of university representatives; the ratio of the number of teachers and students; attitude of employers towards graduates; the relative number of foreign teachers; relative number of foreign students. In 2023, three more indicators were added: employment outcomes; international research network; sustainability.
