New challenges in the energy sector give rise to modern solutions. The Energy Hub, a youth scientific association for the coordination and organization of research work in the energy sector, was created on the basis of Institute of Education and Science in Power Engineering, Electronics and Electromechanics of NTU «KhPI». More than ten students, postgraduates and teachers of Kharkiv Polytechnic became its members, who plan to organize scientific and career guidance events and cooperate with organizations in the energy sector. In addition, the mission of the Hub is to promote engineering specialities and train qualified personnel for the energy sector.
According to the organizers, the Energy Hub was created because they understood the relevance of such a center for Kharkiv Polytechnic and the needs of the Ukrainian energy industry. In addition, its founders have significant project experience and creative potential in the energy sector.
The NTU «KhPI» Energy Hub aims to support young people in participating in internship projects, grant programs, start-ups and other scientific and educational events, and to establish communication with leading energy cluster stakeholders and scientific organizations to attract expert assistance. Among these organisations are JSC «Kharkivoblenergo», the National Commission, which carries out state regulation in the spheres of energy and public utilities (NCREPU) «Mirenergocom LLC».
In addition, an important area will be the dissemination of information about the important role of electricity workers in Ukraine’s life, the need to train such specialists, and the prospects for this profession. Thus, the Hub team organizes cooperation with schoolchildren and teachers preparing papers for the Junior Academy of Sciences competitions, promotes the professional development of teachers and lecturers concerning sustainable energy through STEAM seminars, courses and pedagogical workshops, and holds STEAM education events.
Now, within the Energy Hub, young scientists of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute are receiving assistance in preparing programs important for the community, including the Sustainable and Energy Efficient School. The project provides for a course of lectures to improve the skills of Kharkiv school management in the issues of energy management of secondary education institutions and the prospects for the use of renewable energy sources. In addition, thanks to the advisory support provided by the Energy Hub, a student of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute received personalized scholarships from the Elena Borshch Charitable Foundation.
Previously, the Hub team participated in career guidance events and helped to promote STEM education. These are, for example, the following projects of NTU «KhPI»: «Open Day», «Holidays with Polytechnic», «Day of Light».
