Results of the visit of the NTU «KhPI» professor to the Romanian Polytechnic – Cooperation under the Erasmus program

Within the framework of participation in the Erasmus+ KA1 academic mobility program, the Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics, Professor Viacheslav Burlaienko, visited the Politehnica University Timișoara (UPT, Romania). The purpose of the visit was to conduct a number of activities to support international cooperation between the Ukrainian and Romanian universities. During the visit, the Kharkiv scientist gave lectures for UPT students, held fruitful meetings, discussions, and joint experimental tests with scientists from the Romanian Polytechnic. An important event for Prof. Burlaienko was the opportunity to gain practical experience in the research activities of the world-famous Continental company, which cooperates with UPT. This acquaintance opens up prospects for future cooperation with the industrial company, which can become the basis for joint research and testing in the fields of materials science and vibration testing.

Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Modeling, Applied Physics and Mathematics of NTU «KhPI» Professor Viacheslav Burlaienko during a business trip to the Politehnica University Timișoara (rom. Universitatea Politehnica Timișoara- UPT) held a series of meetings with UPT staff: Vice-Rector Liviu Marșavina, Erasmus Program Officer Diana Balsh-Diaconescu and Head of the International Relations Department Professor Claudiu Tiberiu Albulescu. They discussed various aspects of the mobility program, prospects for cooperation between program participants, as well as initiatives for international cooperation between              NTU «KhPI» and UPT within the framework of the Erasmus+ КА1.

In addition, for the masters and postgraduate students of the Romanian university, professor of NTU «KhPI» gave lectures on the following topics: «Advanced analysis of dynamic characteristics of axially functionally graded material (AFGM) beams with variable cross-sections and porosity defects» and «Introduction to mathematical modeling techniques and simulations with ABAQUS of advanced manufacturing stir friction welding (SFW) process».

The eventful program of Viacheslav Burlaienko’s visit to UPT included lively discussions with the staff of the Department of Mechanics and Material Resistance of the Romanian University – Professor Liviu Marșavina, Associate Professors Emanuel Linul, Radu Negru, Professor of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Marius Adam, and other scientists.  At these meetings, they discussed potential cooperation between the institutions. An important event for the professor of NTU «KhPI» became an invitation to an interview for the TV of the Politehnica University Timișoara, where they talked about the features of the Erasmus academic program, various aspects of learning, teaching and research of Ukrainian students and teachers in the conditions of a full-scale war in Ukraine.

During the 6 days of the internship program in Romania, professor of NTU «KhPI» Viacheslav Burlaienko also managed to take part in experimental tests, including fracture testing of samples of materials made using 3D printing. These tests were organized and conducted by Professor Liviu Marșavina and his graduate student Mihai Margitas. In addition, the Kharkiv scientist visited the research department of Continental, which cooperates with UPT scientists. According to Viacheslav Burlaienko, during the visit he had a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the research activities of the world-famous company Continental, where the head of the experimental laboratory Ionut Ailinee and vibration test engineer Denis Madroane presented their expertise. According to the professor of NTU «KhPI», this acquaintance opens up prospects for future cooperation with the industrial company, which can become the basis for joint research and testing in the fields of materials science and vibration testing. «The eventful and productive experience of my stay at UPT opens up significant opportunities for further fruitful cooperation between NTU «KhPI» and Politehnica University Timișoara,» emphasized Viacheslav Burlaienko.

Note:

ERASMUS+ is the European Union’s international cooperation program for education, youth and sport. Its goal is to support the educational, professional and personal development of citizens in the EU and beyond to contribute to sustainable growth, quality jobs and social cohesion, to foster innovation and strengthen European identity and active citizenship. The program provides opportunities for educational and academic mobility in education and for young people, projects and partnerships, strategy development and cooperation, professional networks and open resources.

Academic mobility of the KA1 direction promotes international mobility of students, teachers and staff of higher education institutions. Participation in the program is a great opportunity for students and academic staff to study or do an internship at the best universities in Europe, develop their skills, compare educational methods, become fluent in a foreign language, and gain invaluable life experience. It is open to students (bachelors, starting from the second year of study, masters), postgraduates, teachers and administrative staff. Mobility periods for: students – from 3 to 12 months; teachers and administrative staff – from 5 days to 2 months. Participants receive financial support/scholarships that cover all transportation and accommodation costs abroad. The period of study abroad, as well as the credits earned, must be recognized by the home university.
