The scientific journal «Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics», published by NTU «KhPI» in conjunction with the A.M. Podgorny Institute of Power Machines and Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, has entered the prestigious Q2 Scopus quartile. This means that the publication now belongs to the category of high-quality journals, which occupy positions in the range from 25% to 50% of the world’s best scientific publications. The journal covers areas such as theoretical electrical engineering, strong electric and magnetic field technology, electrical machines and apparatus, electrical insulation and cable technology, power electronics, electric transport, power stations, networks and systems, and others. The editor-in-chief of the publication is Yevgen Sokol, rector of the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» and corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The scientific journal «Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics» was founded in 2002 by Boris Klymenko, a renowned scientist in the field of electrical engineering and professor at the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», who became its first editor-in-chief. In 2014, on the initiative of Vladimir Rozov, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Yevgen Sokol, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the journal began to be published by NTU «KhPI» in conjunction with the Institute of Technical Problems of Magnetism of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, whose successor is now Anatolii Pidhornyi institute of power machines and systems of the National academy of sciences of Ukraine (IPMach of NASU)
During the period 2015-2017, the journal’s performance improved significantly, which led to its inclusion in the Web of Science scientometric database (2017) and the assignment of the highest category «A» to the journal by the Ministry of Education and Science (2018). In 2020 , Boris Klymenko passed away, and his work was continued by the rector of NTU «KhPI», corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Yevgen Sokol. Under his leadership, the journal’s performance continued to improve, which contributed to its inclusion in 2021 the Scopus scientometric database in 2021, to the third quartile (Q3) of Scopus and Web of Science in 2023, and to the prestigious second quartile (Q2) of Scopus in 2024.
According to the editorial team of the publication «Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics», its advantage over other electrical engineering journals lies in its ability to bring together scientific and educational centers in Ukraine. Extensive cooperation with research institutes around the world helps to attract leading experts to review articles and publish cutting-edge research results. This, in turn, has enabled the publication to achieve the highest ratings among Ukrainian electrical engineering scientific journals — quartile Q2 in the Scopus database and quartile Q3 in Web of Science.

Quartile is a category to which a scientific journal belongs depending on its place in the overall ranking of publications in a specific field of knowledge. The ranking of journals in each subject category is divided into quartiles based on the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and SCImago Journal Ranking (SJR) reports. Quartiles rank journals from the highest to the lowest position in a scientific field. All journals indexed in international databases, such as Scopus or Web of Science, are divided into four groups:
- Q1 (first quartile) — these are the top 25% of journals in a particular scientific field. Journals in this quartile have the highest scientific impact and prestige.
- Q2 (second quartile) — journals that rank between 25% and 50% of the best. They are also considered high-quality and authoritative in the scientific community.
- Q3 (third quartile) — journals that rank between 50% and 75% in the rating. These are publications with medium impact.
- Q4 (fourth quartile) — 25% of journals with the lowest citation and scientific impact in their category.
The quartile is assigned separately in each subject category in which the journal is indexed and may differ in the Scopus (according to SJR metrics) and Web of Science (according to JCR) databases. Thus, the quartile helps to assess the prestige and scientific significance of a journal within its discipline and serves as a guideline for authors when choosing a place to publish.
