Kharkiv hosted two freestyle wrestling tournaments that brought together more than a hundred children aged 7 to 10! These were the open competitions of the children’s and youth sports school No. 6, which took place under the patronage of Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, and the city wrestling championship «Coliseum -2025» dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Kharkiv Polytechnic. Representatives of the university administration, teachers and coaches of NTU «KhPI» took part in organizing and conducting these events. The participants note that these tournaments are more than just a competition, but a signal to children and young people who support them.
This year, the management of the sport wrestling club «Coliseum», which is holding the tournament for the eleventh time (since 2023, the competition has not been held due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by russia), set out to restore the tradition and organize the championship at the NTU «KhPI» sports complex. The participants of the Colosseum-2025 became 54 boys and girls aged 7 to 10 years. According to Andrii Yevtyfiev, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine, Associate Professor of Department Physical Education at NTU «KhPI» and head of the Coliseum club, the event was very symbolic for all participants. «These competitions were the first in a series of freestyle wrestling tournaments dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the National Technical University «KhPI». In the future, we plan to hold a number of sporting events in honor of our university’s anniversary,» said Andrii Yevtyfiev, the club’s head. Representatives of the administration of NTU «KhPI» took part in the «Coliseum -2025»: Rector Yevgen Sokol, with whose support the competition was held, Vice-Rectors Ruslan Mygushchenko and Magomediemin Gasanov, as well as Head of the Department of Physical Education Oleksii Yushko.
Another open youth wrestling tournament with the support of Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov and the participation of Kharkiv Polytechnics took place the day before. It was the open team championship of the Complex Children and Youth Sports School (CYSS) No. 6. Three teams of 12 participants each competed in the tournament. The team with the most points won. Ruslan Mygushchenko, vice-rector of NTU «KhPI», was honored at this tournament and was awarded a diploma of the Administration of the Sloboda district of the Kharkiv City Council «for high professionalism, significant contribution to the development of physical culture and sports in Kharkiv, as well as for strengthening the authority of Ukraine as a sports state».
The organizers themselves comment on these two tournaments as events that are more important than competitions. «This is a signal to children and youth: you are seen, you are supported, you are important. NTU «KhPI» has once again proved that a real university is not only about academic buildings, but also about supporting the country at every level», the coaches say.
