Special events of the year included online lectures by two Nobel Prize winners in physics, which they gave to Kharkiv Polytechnic students. The university’s innovative ecosystem demonstrated its power: 65 startup projects were created, and three works by NTU «KhPI» received the President of Ukraine’s Award for Young Scientists.
The National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» has confirmed its status as one of Ukraine’s leading scientific and educational centers thanks to its high research results and effective financing of innovations. In 2025, the university attracted 110 million UAH for scientific initiatives, which allowed it to expand applied research and support the innovative ecosystem. The share of the special fund increased to 42.5%, and in terms of budget funding, KPI ranked second among Ukrainian universities. Based on the results of the competitive selection by the Ministry of Education and Science, Kharkiv Polytechnic entered the top 3 in the main selection of fundamental and applied research, among the works of young scientists, as well as within the program for frontline higher education institutions.
In addition, NTU «KhPI» demonstrated high productivity in research activities. During the year, approximately 1.000 scientific articles were published in university publications, more than 100 monographs were published, and four collective use centers were created. The scientific journal «Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics», published by NTU «KhPI» in collaboration with Anatolii Pidhornyi institute of power machines and systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, entered the prestigious second quartile of the Scopus database. After being included in the Scopus scientometric database, the journal «Modern Information Systems» received an «A» rating in 2025. On the initiative of NTU «KhPI», edited by Professor Andriy Marchenko and supported by the Technical University of Kielce, Springer published a collective monograph entitled «Decarbonization of transport energy installations in the context of sustainable development strategies», which brings together research by leading scientists from the United States, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine. The annual number of publications by NTU «KhPI» employees in Scopus-indexed publications is steadily growing: at the beginning of the year there were 491, and over the next month about 650 are expected. According to the state certification of higher education institutions conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» topped the ranking in the field of engineering and technology and entered the TOP-5 in the field of natural sciences and mathematics.
International scientific cooperation at NTU «KhPI» reached a new level in 2025. This was achieved thanks to the university’s participation in prestigious European and global projects. The number of international agreements has increased significantly, particularly within the EURATOM program, the Horizon Europe initiative, the DiTEC project, bilateral research programs, the NATO Science for Peace and Security Program, the Danube Region project, as well as Erasmus+ KA2 projects, including the four-year project Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative (DigiUni). The active participation of leading scientists from around the world in university scientific events became a significant event for the Ukrainian academic community. As part of the celebration of the 140th anniversary of NTU «KhPI», two Nobel Prize winners in physics gave online lectures at the invitation of the university. Professor Takaaki Kajita gave a lecture entitled «Japanese science -focusing on Japanese cosmic ray physics», and Professor Ferenc Krausz gave a lecture entitled «From Attosecond Physics to Infrared Molecular Fingerprinting: Shaping the Future of Preventive Healthcare». In addition, world-renowned scientist Professor Yuriy Gogotsi, whose h-index exceeds 200, spoke at the plenary session of the MicroCAD 2025 international scientific conference. The celebration of Science Days at NTU «KhPI» brought together representatives from all regions of Ukraine and 30 countries around the world.
