NTU «KhPI» in the THE-2026 global ranking – in four areas

For the fourth year in a row, NTU «KhPI» has been included in the prestigious THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026, which evaluates universities in eleven fields of knowledge. Kharkiv Polytechnic is represented in four areas on the list: computer science; business and economics; physical sciences; and engineering, in which it consistently ranks among the top five universities in Ukraine. The results of the analysis of more than 1.500 universities from nearly 100 countries and territories were recently published by the British agency Times Higher Education. Only twenty-two Ukrainian higher education institutions are represented in the ranking.

The British agency Times Higher Education (THE) has presented the results of its annual THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026, which evaluates universities across 11 fields of knowledge and 148 disciplines. The ranking uses the same methodology as the overall THE world ranking, but takes into account the specifics of each field, allowing for a more accurate representation of the strengths of universities in specific areas of teaching and research.

Of the eleven subject areas represented in the ranking, Kharkiv Polytechnic appears in four key areas that determine the scientific and technological development of the modern world: computer science, business and economics, physical sciences, and engineering.

In 2026, NTU «KhPI» achieved the following results:

  • in the subject area «Computer Science» — 2nd place among 9 Ukrainian universities and 1001+ among 1165 universities worldwide;
  • in the field of «Business and Economics» — 5th place among 9 Ukrainian universities and 1001+ among 1067 universities worldwide;
  • in the subject area «Physical Sciences» — 4th place among 13 Ukrainian universities and 1251+ among 1497 universities worldwide;
  • in the subject area «Engineering» — 5th place among 14 Ukrainian universities and 1251+ among 1555 universities worldwide.

 

Earlier, the British agency Times Higher Education published THE World University Rankings 2025, in which Kharkiv Polytechnic University ranked fifth among Ukrainian higher education institutions and also in the 1001-1500 group in the world ranking.
