Memorandum and Live Lecture: Professor from Canada visited NTU «KhPI»

Professor Debabrata Ghosh (Canada), CEO of SiliconsoftX Technologies, visited NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute». As a visiting lecturer at the Department of Micro- and Nanoelectronics at NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», he delivered a public lecture in English titled «Evolution of Microchip: From Microprocessor to SoC». The event was attended by students and prospective students, who had the opportunity to ask questions. In particular, they were interested in the future of microprocessors, the emergence of alternative technologies, as well as the challenges facing engineering education and professional practice. During Professor Debabrata Ghosh’s visit, a bilateral Memorandum of Cooperation was signed, and he was given a tour of the departments and laboratories at NTU «KhPI». The event was held in a hybrid format: online via the Microsoft Teams platform and in person at the university.

The Department of Micro- and Nanoelectronics organized an open lecture at Kharkiv Polytechnic University by Professor Debabrata Ghosh (Canada), CEO of SiliconsoftX Technologies, titled «The Evolution of Microchips: From Microprocessors to SoCs». Students from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies at NTU «KhPI» and the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Modeling, Applied Physics, and Mathematics at NTU «KhPI» participated in the event. Prospective students also took advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about the importance of micro- and nanoelectronics. During the lecture, attendees immersed themselves in the world of high technology, tracing the path from the fundamental principles of electronics to the most modern IT achievements. The audience was interested in the future of microprocessors, the emergence of alternative technologies, as well as the controversial question: which is actually more difficult—earning an engineering degree or working in the field. Lively discussion was sparked by the prospects for hardware engineering amid the widespread transition to system-on-chip (SoC) solutions and the likelihood that future board design will resemble the software development process.

Following the lecture, a tour of the university was conducted. At the Department of Micro- and Nanoelectronics, Professor Ghosh visited the chemistry and vacuum laboratories, the 3D printing laboratory, as well as the laboratory where measurements and research on the optical properties of thin-film structures are conducted. In the laboratory of the Department of Physics of Metals and Semiconductors at NTU «KhPI», Acting Head Leonid Konotopskyi demonstrated its capabilities and spoke about the main research being conducted within various scientific projects, including NURECAB.

The meeting with representatives of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Modeling, Applied Physics, and Mathematics at NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» was attended by researchers from the following departments: Micro- and Nanoelectronics—Department Head Professor Roman Zaitsev, Professor Kseniia Minakova, Associate Professor Mykhailo Kirichenko, and Research Associate Dmytro Shkoda; the Department of Automation and Control in Technical Systems —Head Professor Andriy Zuev, Senior Lecturer Dmytro Karaman, and Head of the Department of Automation of Technological Systems and Environmental Monitoring, Associate Professor Ihor Krasnikov. The event was moderated by the Director of the Institute of Computer Modeling, Professor Oleksiy Larin.

The researchers discussed the main challenges facing modern electronics and automation,

proposed areas for future collaboration, including the creation of an elective course for the university-wide catalog, which all students in the G-branch could choose to take if they wished.

During Professor Debabrata Ghosh’s visit, a signing ceremony was held for a bilateral Memorandum of Cooperation. The event was attended by the Vice Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and International Education, Professor Gennadiy Khrypunov, as well as Professors Oleksiy Larin, Roman Zaitsev, Kseniia Minakova, Associate Professor Mykhailo Kirichenko, and the Head of the Press Service of NTU «KhPI,» Olena Rozova.

Note:

The visit of Professor Debabrata Ghosh (Canada), CEO of «SiliconsoftX Technologies», to the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» took place on April 22, 2026. The open lecture in English, titled «The Evolution of Microchips: From Microprocessors to SoCs,» was held in a hybrid format: online via Microsoft Teams and in person at the university.
