NTU «KhPI» has confirmed its status as the best technical university in Eastern Ukraine – THE Impact Rankings 2026

The National Technical University «KhPI» has improved its position and made it into the TOP 1000 of the prestigious global university ranking—The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026. Kharkiv Polytechnic University took third place on the Ukrainian list and cemented its status as the best technical university in Eastern Ukraine. The university demonstrated its strongest performance in the areas of «innovation,» «sustainable economic development,» «quality of education,» and «international collaboration.» In 2026, 1,646 universities from 116 countries were included in the THE rankings, including 55 Ukrainian institutions of higher education.

According to the results of the annual Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2026, the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» has once again been recognized as the best technical university in eastern Ukraine. The NTU «KhPI’s» overall score reached 57.15 out of a possible 100, securing the university a tied third place among higher education institutions in Ukraine. This is the best result NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» has achieved since it began participating in the ranking. The university improved its position in the global rankings, entering the top 1,000 universities in the world (group 801–1,000).

In 2026, the university was represented in eight areas corresponding to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. NTU «KhPI» achieved its highest rankings in the following areas:

  • SDG 9 «Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure» — ranked 301–400 globally (up 150 places) and 2nd among higher education institutions in Ukraine;
  • SDG 8 «Decent Work and Economic Growth» — ranked 301–400 globally (an improvement of 150 positions) and 4th among Ukrainian higher education institutions;
  • SDG 4 «Quality Education» — ranked 601–800 globally and 5th among Ukrainian universities;
  • SDG 17 «Partnerships for the Goals» (mandatory category) — ranked 801–1,000 globally and 4th among Ukrainian higher education institutions.

The 2026 ranking evaluated 1,646 universities from 116 countries worldwide. Compared to the previous year, NTU «KhPI» improved its position and strengthened its presence on the global list.

Times Higher Education Impact Rankings is an international ranking that assesses universities’ contributions to achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The final score is calculated based on indicators for mandatory Goal 17, «Partnerships for the Goals,» and the university’s three best scores among the other SDGs.
