In the ranking of the best world universities QS World University Rankings 2018, National Technical University “Kharkov Polytechnic Institute” holds the position 701-750 and the position 4 among the Ukrainian Institutions of Higher Education. This is the best indicator throughout the entire history of the existence of the World Ranking, drawn up by the British Consulting Company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
In addition to NTU “KhPI”, the ranking was represented by five other Ukrainian Universities, in particular V.N. Karazin Kharkov National University (position 401-410), T. G. Shevchenko Kiev National University (position 411-420), National Technical University “ I. Sikorsky Kiev Polytechnic Institute” (position 501-550) and also V. Stus Donetsk National University and Sumy National University shared the position 801-1000.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology has still been a leader for several years. The Stanford University ranks second and the Harvard University ranks third.
To draw up QS World University Rankings 2018 , the activities of more than 4000 universities of the World were analyzed and about 115 thousand employers and scientists were polled. The published ranking includes 980 best universities from 81 countries; the opinions of 74651 representatives of academic world community and 37771 employers were taken into account, 12 million research papers indexed by the bibliographic database Scopus/Elsevier were analyzed and consideration was given to 75 million of quotations.

This ranking takes into account the six key indicators: academic reputation (40% of the estimate), reputation among the employees (10%), students –to- academic staff relationship at the University (20%), citing research papers in Scopus (20%), the share of foreign students and teachers (5% and 5%).
