NTU “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” was visited by representatives of the College of Engineering at Temple University (Philadelphia, USA) – professors Dmitriy Dikin and Alexander Pillapakkam, with the aim of developing international cooperation in educational and scientific fields between universities. During a three-day visit (November 4-6), they held talks with the administration of the KhPI, also met with scientists and students of the university departments, and took part in a practical seminar.
The visit of the representatives of Temple University (TU) to NTU “KhPI” began with the university administration negotiations – vice-rector for research Andriy Marchenko, head of the international relations department Olexandr Goncharov, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Energy, Electronics and Electromechanics Roman Tomashevsky, director of Educational Scientific Engineering Physics Institute by Alexiy Larin. They discussed issues of cooperation with KhPI in the field of research and innovation, as well as the implementation of a partnership (KhPI with TU) project “Training in the commercialization of technologies for students of engineering specialties of the master level of technical universities”, which is implemented by the Kharkiv Public Center for the Promotion of Private Initiatives with the support of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
After negotiations, professors from Temple University, Dmitriy Dikin and Alexander Pillapakkam met with the NTU “KhPI” scientists. During the discussion, the priorities of international cooperation in the scientific and educational fields of the Engineering College of TU, the main areas of research at the institutes of KhPI (in the field of energy, microelectronics, materials science, information and communication technologies, mechanical engineering) were presented, the ways of inter-university cooperation in scientific and educational fields were also presented. For students of engineering specialties at the Polytechnic, representatives of an American university held an informational and consulting session on the possibilities of studying at the graduate school of the Technical College of Engineering in the USA.
The next day, American experts took part in the workshop “Modern educational approaches to the development of engineering entrepreneurship in technical universities. Experience of Temple University, College of Engineering, USA and NTU “KhPI”, Ukraine”. It took place for two days at the KhPI Scientific and Technical Library. The participants were more than 20 representatives of engineering departments of the Polytechnic. They got acquainted with the experience of Temple University in organizing the multidisciplinary program “Senior Design”, as well as projects to support and develop engineering entrepreneurship, which are integrated into the KhPI curriculum. Among them are project studios for evaluating innovative developments (presented by project managers Andriy Tarelin and Elena Reshetnyak) and EO-Incubator (presented by Roman Tomashevsky and Oksana Sevryukova, participants of the first season of EO-Incubator). During the work in groups, the prospects of introducing educational tools for the development of innovative and entrepreneurial skills among engineering students were discussed. In addition, the seminar participants tried to determine the place of a similar course in the educational process, its possible structure (main topics), duration, necessary resources.
The next steps of the project “Training in the commercialization of technologies for students of engineering specialties at the master’s level at technical universities” are the creation of a course adapted for technical universities in Ukraine and its pilot implementation at the departments of the Educational Scientific Institute of Energy, Electronics and Electromechanics and the Educational Scientific Scientific Engineering Physics Institute NTU KhPI”.
