The first results of the Grantwriting School of NTU «KhPI»: Young scientists received funding

A group of researchers from the electrical machines department of NTU «KhPI» under the leadership of associate professor Oleksii Duniev won a grant funded by the countries of the EU, the USA and Canada to support Ukrainian scientists. Within 6 months, the polytechnics plan to present the results of their work concerning the improvement and development of the design of highly efficient linear wave energy converters. The success in obtaining of the grant was provided by the intensive course «School of Grant Writing» organized by the team of young scientists of NTU «KhPI».

The topic of the grant application provides  the investigation of highly efficient, cost-effective wave-energy conversion systems. The authors of the project are scientists from the electrical machines department of NTU «KhPI» Oleksii Duniev, Andrii Maslennikov and Andrii Yehorov. According to project manager Oleksii Duniev, the application has gone a long way in the selection process and, taking into account the lengthy assessment process, was approved for implementation by the commission in the middle of January 2024. Already in February, the scientists began to actively work on their research. The duration of the grant is 6 months, during which the scientists of the electrical machines department plan to implement the research stages clearly specified in the application and submit the results of work on the improvement and development of the design of high-efficiency linear wave energy converters. And then, after completing the theoretical research within the framework of the grant, the scientists plan to choose the best concept for prototyping and conduct experimental studies of wave energy conversion systems on the Black Sea coast in the Ukrainian Crimea.

The application to receive an international grant for priority research was made within the framework of the EURIZON FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME «Remote Research Grants for Ukrainian Researchers». This program was created with the support of the Ukrainian Science and Technology Center and is funded by countries of the EU, the USA and Canada to support Ukrainian scientists who continue their research only in Ukraine.

As the project manager, Oleksii Duniev, said, the success in obtaining the grant was provided by his training at the intensive course «School of Grant Writing» which was organized by young scientists of NTU «KhPI». The speakers of the School became the experts of Kharkiv Polytechnic on writing grant applications: Professor Roman Tomashevskyi, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Power Engineering, Electronics and Electromechanics; Professor Oleksii Larin, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Modeling, Applied Physics and Mathematics; Head of the Council of Young Scientists, associate professor of the power transmission department of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Power Engineering, Electronics and Electromechanics, Dmytro Danylchenko, associate professor of the department of physics at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Modeling, Applied Physics and Mathematics of NTU «KhPI» Kseniia Minakova, senior lecturer at the department of power plants at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Power Engineering, Electronics and Electromechanics,  Stanislav Fedorchuk.

According to Oleksii Duniev, the course of the School of Grantwriting covered the conciseness of the description and execution of grant applications, the substantive presentation of the research idea, and the features of the targeted search for suitable grant programs. The intensive was held free of charge for NTU «KhPI» scientists from 17 April to 5 June 2023. The team of authors of the project «Investigation of highly efficient, cost-effective wave-energy conversion systems» expresses gratitude to the developers of the School’s course for their support and definitely useful and practically rich classes for NTU «KhPI» scientists, whose recommendations have definitely improved the submitted application.
