National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» has been included in the list of the world’s best universities in the latest edition of QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024. It showed good results in the subject area «Engineering & Technology», taking the second and sixth places among Ukrainian universities. In total, the ranking estimated almost 1600 universities in the world.
In the 14th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, five fields of knowledge were presented: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences and management.
This year, NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» was included in the ranking in two disciplines which are part of the subject area «Engineering & Technology»:
-for the second time was ranked in the subject «Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering», took the 2nd place among higher education institutions of Ukraine and 451-500 place among universities in the world, receiving a total score of 52.2;
– for the first time was included in the ranking in Computer Science & Information Systems, took the place 701-720 and being among the six ranked universities in Ukraine, receiving a total score of 49.3.
We should note that NTU «KhPI» received quite high scores in several other subjects, which, with further improvement of the university’s activities, may allow it to be ranked in the ranking in these disciplines.
These are the following subjects:
- Engineering – Electrical & Electronic – direction «Engineering and Technology» – 51.0 points;
- Petroleum Engineering – direction «Engineering and Technology» – 49.0 points
- Business & Management Studies – direction «Social Sciences and Management» – 46.5 points.
- Mathematics , direction «Natural Sciences» – 45.5 points:
- Engineering – Chemical – direction «Engineering and Technology» – 45.4 points;
- Physics & Astronomy – direction «Natural Sciences» – 44.9 points;
- Data Science and Artificial Intelligence – direction «Engineering and Technology» – 44.0 points;
- Materials Science – direction «Natural Sciences» – 43.4 points;
In 7 other subjects, the university was also evaluated, receiving scores in the range of 27-40 points.

QS Quacquarelli Symonds has published the fourteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024. This year, more than 16,300 educational programs in various subjects were ranked, which is 600 more than last year. 1,559 institutions were analyzed, including 64 newcomers. Universities are ranked according to various indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, and the International Research Network (IRN) index.
