Emiliia Saprykina, a 5th year student of the department of technology of mechanical engineering and metal-cutting machines of NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», studied at Cracow University of Technology (Poland) for a semester. The trip of the Kharkiv Polytechnic master student to the Polish leading technical higher education institution took place thanks to her victory in the competition for participation in the international Erasmus+ program. The girl shared her impressions of studying and staying in the European country.
Emiliia Saprykina, a master’s student of the department of technology of mechanical engineering and metal-cutting machines of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport of NTU «KhPI» (specialty «Industrial Engineering»), was selected for the Erasmus+ international educational program in Poland.
«I arrived in Cracow on 23 February this year and was immediately put up in a student dormitory. It’s a beautiful ten- floor building with all the conditions for comfortable living and studying. According to the curriculum, classes at the university were supposed to start on 4 March, so what to do in a new country and a new university for a whole week? This time for newcomers turned out to be «orientation» and was needed by students from different countries to complete documents, get to know the city, and communicate with each other,» says Emiliia Saprykina.
According to the NTU «KhPI» master’s student, the project coordinators at the Cracow University of Technology organized joint events, trips, and excursions for students. A very pleasant event of the orientation week was a welcome meeting for students who chose disciplines from the Mechanical Department. They were told how to use the class schedule, answered questions, and provided all the necessary information and support. The training and communication were held in English, and the teachers were willing to explain everything that was not clear.
Emiliia Saprykina noted that she chose the subjects for her mobility program consciously, some on her own, and some on the recommendations of the teachers of her native department of technology of mechanical engineering and metal-cutting machines at NTU «KhPI». According to the NTU «KhPI» student, the purpose of her trip to the Polish university was to deepen her knowledge and practical skills in industrial engineering. «Lectures and practical classes were held in the morning and evening. We worked in teams on projects in Ansys, AutoCad, NeiNastram, Catia v5, Autodesk Fusion, MSC Adams, and other programs. It was not difficult for me, because I have been familiar with most of them since my bachelor’s degree at NTU «KhPI». We performed laboratory work on modern equipment. Besides offline classes, there are groups for each of the disciplines in Teams, where students can find lectures and educational material,» says Emiliia Saprykina.
The girl said that it was a valuable experience for her to obtain new skills in communicating with professors from a European educational institution. And working in a team on projects made her feel like an important part of a single powerful organism.
The master’s student of Kharkiv Polytechnic is grateful to NTU «KhPI» and her native department for the opportunity to make an important step towards her future profession, to get new impressions and acquaintances, to improve her English and learn Polish.
