Igor Nimchenko, a graduate of the NTU «KhPI», became a silver and bronze medalist of the Paralympics-2024!

Igor Nimchenko, Master of Kharkiv Polytechnic, graduated in 2021, won silver and bronze medals at the XVII Summer Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris.

The former student of the department of physical education of the NTU «KhPI» showed the second result in the 100 m butterfly style competition and finished the third in the final of the 200 m complex swim. Thus, the NTU «KhPI» graduate became one of the nineteen multimedalists of Ukraine in this world tournament!

For the talented sportsman, these Paralympic Games were the first in his career. Ihor Nimchenko’s path to his awards was a gradual one. At first, he took part in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle swims, where he finished fifth and sixth, respectively. However, he qualified for the 100-meter butterfly from the first place in the overall standings with a time of 57.52 seconds. In the final, the graduate of Kharkiv Polytechnic improved his result by more than two seconds and won a silver medal, losing to Italian Stefano Raimondi by only 0.19 seconds. In the final of the 200-meter complex swim competition, Igor Nimchenko managed to outrun another Italian, Riccardo Menchotti, in the final stretch of the race for third place and won the bronze medal. Thus, the NTU «KhPI» graduate became one of 19 multi-medalists of Ukraine at this world tournament.

The XVII Summer Paralympic Games took place from 28, August  to 8 September , 2024, in Paris (France). At this tournament, the national team of Ukraine took seventh place in the team medal standings, winning 82 awards: 22 gold, 28 silver and 32 bronze. Ukraine was represented by 140 athletes competing in 17 sports. This is a record number of sports in the Paralympic history of Ukraine.
