Young scientists of NTU «KhPI» – participants of a large-scale international conference on nuclear energy

Master student Emilia Saprykina and postgraduate students Yuliia Gadaieva and Valeriia Kiryuchkova of Kharkiv Polytechnic took part in the International Scientific Conference «Nuclear Energy – Carbon-Free Future of Europe». At the forum, they presented their research in a competition of student papers on nuclear topics organized by the conference organizers. The research projects of the representatives of NTU «KhPI» were devoted to the development of technologies and approaches that will provide reliable and environmentally friendly use of energy resources; the potential of unmanned aerial vehicles in improving the safety of nuclear facilities; and research on the environmental aspects of the impact of nuclear energy during the war. The event was held at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (Czech Republic) as part of the annual Nuclear Days 2024 program.

Master student Emilia Saprykina and postgraduate students Yuliia Gadaieva and Valeria Kiryuchkova of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport of NTU «KhPI» became participants of the International Scientific Conference «Nuclear Energy – Carbon-Free Future of Europe». Young scientists of Kharkiv Polytechnic attended the plenary sections «Decarbonization of the energy balance of the EU and the Czech Republic», «Life cycle of a nuclear power plant», «SMR – sources of energy of the future» of the forum. They also listened to presentations by well-known experts from the IAEA, the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, representatives of ČEPS, NucAdvisor, EDU II, Doosan Škoda Power, ŠKODA JS, ÚJV Řež, KHNP, etc. and visited a thematic exhibition. In the lobby of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (Czech Republic), NTU «KhPI» master’s and PhD students had the opportunity to explore whether nuclear energy is safe, environmentally friendly and useful.

Young scientists of Kharkiv Polytechnic took part in the competition of student works on nuclear topics, where they presented their research in the format of poster presentations. Thus, the research project of Master’s student Yuliia Gadaieva was devoted to the potential of unmanned aerial vehicles to improve the safety of nuclear facilities, which is extremely relevant in light of modern technological challenges. For her part, Valeriia Kiryuchkova spoke about her research on the environmental aspects of the impact of nuclear energy during wartime, emphasizing the importance of minimizing environmental risks when using nuclear energy in wartime. Postgraduate student Emilia Saprykina presented the development of technologies and approaches that will ensure reliable and environmentally friendly use of energy resources. The main goal of this research was to create energy systems that would be resilient to external influences: natural disasters, man-made accidents, or cyber threats, and would meet high environmental standards. The importance and prospects of the research of young scientists of Kharkiv Polytechnic, especially in terms of environmental challenges, have attracted considerable attention of the international scientific community.

It should be reminded that young scientists from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport of NTU «KhPI» have been participating in the conference for the second year in a row as part of the Nuclear Days program. For them, this is not only an opportunity to present the results of their research, but also a unique chance to strengthen international relations and exchange experience with world-class specialists.

Note:

The international scientific conference Nuclear Energy – Europe’s Carbon-Free Future was held on 12-13 September , 2024. It was organized by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (Czech Republic) in cooperation with the general partner Škoda JS and the CENEN Association (Czech Nuclear Education Network). The forum was an important step in the professional development of young scientists and confirmed the importance of nuclear energy in shaping a sustainable future.

The event was held within the framework of the annual Nuclear Days 2024 program, which brought together leading scientists, engineers and specialists from different countries, providing an opportunity to share experiences and discuss the latest trends in the industry. The central topic of this year’s forum was the search for optimal ways to develop nuclear energy, especially with a focus on environmental safety and innovative solutions that can ensure the sustainable development of the industry.
