Despite Kharkiv’s close location to the front line and constant shelling of the city by russian troops, the reinforced concrete Kharkiv continues to be the student capital of Ukraine, and its indomitable universities are a powerful generator of the country’s development. According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» won the Ukrainian bronze medal among higher education institutions in terms of the number of foreign students. There are 1,100 foreigners studying at NTU «KhPI».
According to a report by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES), Ukrainian universities remain attractive to foreign students despite the difficult situation in the country and the war. As of 1 November 2024, more than 27,000 students from around the world are enrolled in our country’s higher education institutions. The largest number of foreigners are from China, and there are also students from Azerbaijan, India, Georgia, Morocco, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, NTU «KhPI» is among the best universities in terms of the number of foreign students, ranking third in Ukraine in this indicator (1100 foreigners). In addition to Kharkiv Polytechnic, this list (TOP-5) includes two other universities in Kharkiv, one in Mykolaiv, and one in Kyiv: Kyiv National University of Technology and Design; Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics; Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding; and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
The undisputed leader among the specialties chosen by foreigners is medicine, with 4,400 students studying it. Other popular areas of study include management (3,800); economics (1,100); law (985); pharmacy (979); music (969); and educational and pedagogical sciences (866).
