NTU «KhPI» has expanded the geography of its international students to 24 countries. Recently, a citizen of France, Gedon Waimiti-Emmanuelle-Jeanne, came to Kharkiv Polytechnic to take entrance exams for the specialty of computer engineering (taught in English), which is in demand in Europe. Waimiti already has a bachelor’s degree in cinematography in France, and this is her second degree. The French student told the representatives of international relations of the NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» that she is interested in Ukrainian culture and, in addition to computer science, wants to master the Ukrainian language. Today, 1106 international students are studying in Kharkiv Polytechnic, and by these indicators it is one of the university leaders in Ukraine.
Gedon Waimiti-Emmanuelle-Jeanne was born in Tahiti (French Polynesia) and already has a first degree and a bachelor’s degree in cinematography, which she received in France. Nevertheless, she also intends to enter the bachelor’s program at NTU «KhPI» to obtain a second degree – the popular in Europe specialty 123 «Computer Engineering» with broad prospects for the future.
The meeting with the new student of NTU «KhPI» Waimiti was attended by Gennadiy Khrypunov, Vice-Rector for International Relations of NTU «KhPI, Dmytro Gorovyi, Director of the Scientific and Educational Institute of International Education of NTU «KhPI», and his deputy Anna Drozdova. During the conversation, the French guest told us that she is deeply interested in the history and culture of Ukraine, in particular the life of its student capital, Kharkiv. Therefore, she intends to study Ukrainian language along with computer science.
As a sign of special respect, Waimiti presented the administration of Kharkiv Polytechnic with a traditional Tahitian amulet – a necklace made of kauri shells. According to the Frenchwoman, it will protect the university from negative influences and contribute to its further development.
According to the international relations specialists of NTU «KhPI», the education of foreigners at the Polytechnic has become more productive after the rector, Yevgen Sokol, introduced the teaching of some disciplines in English. Foreign students no longer need to adapt to a foreign language environment, they do not spend time on preparatory courses, and immediately start studying specialized disciplines.

As of 01.12.2024, 1106 foreign students representing 24 countries are studying at NTU «KhPI». From the European Union, in addition to the Frenchwoman Waimiti, citizens of Germany and Lithuania are studying at NTU «KhPI». «The G20 is represented by students from Japan, India, Israel and Canada. Among the exotic countries: Ecuador, Lebanon, Jordan, Mongolia and Cameroon. In 2023 – 2024, the high quality and accessibility of education at the National Technical University «KhPI» made it possible for students from the USA, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania and Sudan to receive diplomas. In addition, if earlier students from the former Soviet republics – Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, and Moldova – dominated among foreign countries, today China, Turkey, Egypt, and Morocco have joined them.
