NTU «KhPI» entered the world ranking of sustainable development of universities University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, where it was ranked in all categories and subcategories. Compared to the previous year, Kharkiv Polytechnic has risen by 60 positions in the ranking and is among the TOP 5 Ukrainian universities represented in it. As a result, NTU «KhPI» managed to win first place among Ukrainian higher education institutions in four subcategories out of nine, and in another one – to become the second. The QS Sustainability Ranking is being compiled for the third time, this time 1744 universities from around the world participated in it, which is 341 more than last year.
The best individual results of NTU «KhPI»:
– In the category «Governance» – 80.9 points out of 100 possible; 5th place among Ukrainian universities, 397th place in the world ranking.
– In the subcategory «Environmental Sustainability» (category «Environmental Impact») – 55.4 points; 2nd place in Ukraine and 287th in the world.
– In the subcategory «Knowledge Exchange» (category «Social Impact») – 60.5 points; 5th place among Ukrainian universities and 935th in the world.
According to the results of the global university ranking University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, Kharkiv Polytechnic entered the TOP-5 Ukrainian educational leaders (a year ago it was seventh). In the world ranking table, NTU «KhPI» is ranked 1101-1120, having improved the result by 60 positions compared to last year. In addition to NTU «KhPI», the TOP- 5 Ukrainian universities in the QS Sustainability 2025 ranking are: Lviv Polytechnic National University, Sumy State University, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. 17 Ukrainian universities were ranked in the QS Sustainability 2025 ranking, which is 9 more than last year.
The leader of the ranking this time became the University of Toronto (Canada). The second place was taken by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, and the third place was shared by the University of California, Berkeley (USA) and Lund University (Sweden).

QS World University Rankings: Sustainability: measures the contribution of universities to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The ranking assesses the social and environmental impact of universities as centers of education and research, as well as powerful employers. In addition, the ranking reflects the ability of universities to overcome the management challenges faced by any large and complex organization. The British analysts QS introduced this ranking in 2022 as a response to the growing needs of higher education and society for sustainable development.
The ranking methodology includes indicators, including: indicators of sustainable environmental development (environmental education, environmental research, environmental sustainability), indicators of social impact (employment and academic performance, equality, health and well-being, educational impact, knowledge exchange), and indicators of efficiency and transparency of university management. Global universities are evaluated in three main categories: «Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance». Each of them has clarifying subcategories related to the algorithms of the educational process, research, knowledge exchange, comfort of learning and the possibility of further employment of students. The ranking is based on independent surveys, as well as information provided by the World Bank, the UN, and other global organizations.
