NTU «KhPI» and Huawei: a partnership that opens doors to the world of technology

On 7 August 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Kyiv between the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» and the official representative of the world-famous Chinese company Huawei in Ukraine – Huawei Ukraine LLC. The document was signed by the rector of NTU «KhPI» Yevgen Sokol and the director of «Huawei Ukraine» Yichushui Cao. The memorandum provides for joint educational events, internships, scholarship programmes, support for higher education students and graduates in finding employment, etc. Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute presented three presentations on areas for further cooperation with Huawei Ukraine in the fields of IT technologies, telecommunications, micro- and nanoelectronics, automation, energy (including renewable energy), electrical engineering, and electromechanics.

During his welcoming speech at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation, Mr. Yichushui Cao, official representative of «Huawei Ukraine» LLC, emphasised that the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» is one of the leading and most authoritative Ukrainian higher education institutions in the field of information and telecommunications technologies. He stressed that Chinese partners highly appreciate the level of training of NTU «KhPI» students, who have repeatedly won international competitions organised by Huawei and confidently demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the world stage. According to Yichushui Cao, in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum, Huawei Ukraine will not only organise but also finance internships for the best students of the university both in Ukraine and in the People’s Republic of China. A special aspect of the cooperation will be the opportunity for further employment for graduates who successfully prove themselves during their internships.

In his presentation, Yevgen Sokol, Rector of NTU «KhPI», emphasised the international recognition of the university. In particular, he noted that according to the results of one of the most prestigious global university rankings, QS World University Rankings 2025, National Technical University «KhPI» maintains its leading position among universities in Ukraine, ranking 4th (1001-1200 in the world). According to the results of the first international ranking, Time High Educational Online Learning Rankings 2024, which evaluates the best online training for students on a global scale, the National Technical University «KhPI» entered the group of 14 universities in the world that received the global «silver» (12th-25th place) and topped the TOP-3 Ukrainian educational institutions with a high-quality distance learning system. The high quality of education was confirmed by the successful completion of the international accreditation procedure in 2024 by one of the most authoritative German companies – ZEvA. By 2030, the following full-time educational programmes had received international certification: «Software Engineering», «Computer Science and Intelligent Systems», «Business Administration», «Management and Administration».

Yevgen Sokol reported that more than 11.000 students study at NTU «KhPI», including about 1.100 foreigners representing 30 countries around the world. In particular, over the past year, 637 citizens of the People’s Republic of China have received education at NTU «KhPI», 182 of whom specialised in IT technologies. In this regard, the rector proposed organising internships for Ukrainian students at «Huawei Ukraine» and its foreign branches, both in Ukraine and in the PRC, and for Chinese students at NTU «KhPI» in China. Such cooperation will allow Huawei to select and attract promising young professionals with diplomas legalised in Ukraine for further employment.

After that, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» and the official representative of Huawei in Ukraine – «Huawei Ukraine» LLC. The document was signed by the rector of NTU «KhPI» Yevgen Sokol and the director of «Huawei Ukraine» Yichushui Cao.

The partnership goals include:

  • holding educational events (online and offline);
  • organising of internships;
  • scholarship programmes;
  • competitions;
  • participation of «Huawei Ukraine» in job fairs held by NTU «KhPI»;
  • organising of visits to Huawei’s virtual exhibition halls to demonstrate practical cases of technology use in various industries;
  • support for higher education students and graduates in finding work and employment;
  • promotion of talented students’ participation in competitions.

At the signing ceremony, NTU «KhPI» demonstrated  three presentations on further educational cooperation in the fields of IT technologies, telecommunications, micro- and nanoelectronics, automation, energy (including renewable energy), electrical engineering and electromechanics.

In its turn, «Huawei Ukraine» presented two reports highlighting the activities of Huawei ICT academies in Ukraine, which fruitfully cooperate with students of Ukrainian universities, and introduced with promising dual education programmes.

Academy students gain knowledge of the latest industry technologies and receive relevant certificates confirming their ICT skills.

In 2024, company «Huawei Ukraine» celebrated its 25th anniversary in the country, summarising the results of many years of cooperation with Ukrainian universities. More than 40 educational initiatives, 1.300 students involved, dozens of new laboratories and certification programmes — all this is the result of fruitful work with partners in the field of higher education. Today, more than 400 students are studying at Huawei ICT academies in Ukraine, and more than 140 have already completed internships at the company. In 2024, more than 30 of them became part of the team.
