The researcher from NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» is the only representative of Ukraine at a prestigious Сonference in the United States

Professor of NTU «KhPI» Tetiana Shmatko became the only representative of Ukraine who participated live in the Fourth prestigious International Conference on Nonlinear Dynamics in the USA. Her presentation took place at Stevens Institute of Technology, one of the world’s leading universities specializing in engineering and mechanics. Several hundred scientists from more than 20 countries in North and South America, Asia, and Europe came together to discuss issues of stability, dynamics, and innovative approaches to structural modeling.

At the Fourth International Nonlinear Dynamics Conference 2025 (NODYCON 2025) Tetiana Shmatko, professor at the Department of Higher Mathematics of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport at NTU «KhPI», gave a presentation entitled «Analysis of nonlinear free vibrations of sandwich honey combplates with a complex shape». She spoke in detail about the use of R-function theory to study thin-walled structures made of metamaterials.

NODYCON is a landmark scientific event in the field of structural dynamics and engineering mechanics. This year, the conference provided participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences with prominent scientists from the US, Canada, Brazil, Italy, the UK, China, Japan, and other countries around the world. In particular, Professor Tetiana Shmatko was greatly impressed by her meeting with Professor Muhammad Hajj, head of the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Ocean Engineering at Stevens Institute, and Professor Walter Lacarbonara from La Sapienza University of Rome.

In addition, the scientist from NTU «KhPI» not only gave a presentation, but also moderated several sections of the conference, becoming the only representative of Ukraine who was present at the forum in person. It should be noted that participation in the NODYCON 2025 conference was made possible thanks to Tetiana Shmatko’s scientific activities within the framework of the NATO international project G6176 «Composite Metamaterials for Aerospace Structures – CoMetA.» This project is being implemented as part of the «Science for Peace and Security» (SPS) program, and the NTU «KhPI» team is also represented by professors Lidiya Kurpa and Yuriy Mikhlin.

Note:

The Fourth International Nonlinear Dynamics Conference (NODYCON 2025) took place on 22-25 June at Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, New Jersey, USA). This year, it featured a rich scientific and social program with keynote speeches, workshops, student competitions, and oral sessions showcasing the latest advances in various aspects of nonlinear dynamics. NODYCON was founded in 1986 by Professor Ali H. Nayfeh, with whom Professor Muhammad Hajj collaborated for many years. After three successful conferences in Rome (2019, 2021, 2023), it was decided to hold it in New Jersey as well.

The Stevens Institute of Technology is a private research university founded in 1870. It is one of the oldest technological universities in the United States and was the first college in America dedicated exclusively to mechanical engineering.

NATO G6176 «Composite metamaterials for aerospace structures – CoMetA» is an Italian-Ukrainian research project for the period from 2023 to 2026, which aims to improve the dynamic properties of aerospace structural elements through the use of metamaterials with nonlinear mechanical characteristics.

Science for Peace and Security («SPS») is a NATO program that contributes to strengthening the security of NATO and its partner countries by bringing together the global community to address contemporary challenges to security and stability in the world through the application of the best scientific and technical knowledge.
