The National Technical University «KhPI» has once again confirmed its status as one of Ukraine’s leading universities by making the list of the most prestigious global ranking, the QS World University Rankings 2027. Despite a significant increase in the number of participants and growing competition, NTU «KhPI» took «bronze» in the Ukrainian list and retained its position in the 1001–1200 range. In total, the study featured nearly 9,000 universities from 106 countries worldwide. Nine higher education institutions from Ukraine were included in the ranking.
The results are in for one of the world’s most prestigious university rankings, the QS World University Rankings 2027, which analyzed data from 2025. This year, experts evaluated 8,808 universities from 106 countries—341 more institutions than last year and nearly three times as many as three years ago. At the same time, only 1,504 universities made it into the final ranking, so competition for a spot among the best continues to grow rapidly. Despite this, NTU «KhPI» not only maintained its position but also strengthened it, reaffirming its status as one of the leaders in Ukrainian higher education. The university’s final score was 15.9, which is 5% higher than last year. Looking at the nine indicators used to evaluate universities, NTU «KhPI» improved its standing in most of them. In the two strongest indicators, NTU «KhPI» ranked 2nd and 3rd in Ukraine, as well as 568th and 266th in the world, respectively. The university demonstrated its best results in the following criteria:
- «International Students Ratio» – 2nd place in Ukraine, 568th place worldwide;
- « Faculty Student Ratio» – 3rd place in Ukraine, 266th place worldwide.
The university also demonstrated significant progress in other ranking indicators:
- «Employer Reputation» – 6th place among Ukrainian universities (two positions higher than last year), with the indicator’s score increasing by 12%;
- «Sustainability» – 5th place in Ukraine, with an 8% increase in the indicator’s score.
Thanks to these results, NTU «KhPI» has not only reaffirmed its strong standing among Ukraine’s higher education institutions but has also maintained its place among the world’s leading universities, ranking in the 1001–1200 group. This corresponds to the top 14% of all universities worldwide analyzed in the ranking and the top 80% of institutions included in the final ranking.
In contrast, some Ukrainian institutions saw their results decline: Lviv Polytechnic National University and Sumy State University moved to the 1201–1400 group, while Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics did not make the list of ranked universities at all this year. As was the case last year, the only institutions to outrank NTU «KhPI» in the ranking were Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, which took first place among Ukrainian universities, as well as the National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, which tied for second place. As has become traditional, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA) took the top spot in the global rankings.
Note:
The QS World University Rankings is one of the most prestigious international university rankings. Previously, higher education institutions were evaluated based on six indicators: reputation in the academic community; citations of research publications by university faculty; faculty-to-student ratio; employers’ views of graduates; proportion of international faculty; and proportion of international students. In 2023, three additional indicators were added: graduate employment outcomes; international research network; and sustainability. No fundamentally new indicators were added in the 2024 and 2025 editions of the QS World University Rankings. Instead, Quacquarelli Symonds finalized the updated evaluation framework, which now consists of nine indicators.
The results of the QS World University Rankings 2027, a global survey conducted annually by the analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds, were officially released on June 18, 2026.
