In the prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (NTU «KhPI») ranked 4th in Ukraine in terms of the number of ranked subjects. Kharkiv Polytechnic demonstrated its greatest success in the field of «Engineering and Technology». In the fields of mechanical engineering, aeronautics, and manufacturing, the university took 2nd place in Ukraine and entered the world’s TOP – 500; in the field of computer science and information systems, it took 5th place in the country.
In 2026, QS experts analyzed more than 18.300 degree programs across 55 academic disciplines at over 1.900 universities worldwide. In this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject, the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» was evaluated across 20 disciplines. The highest results were in the field of «Engineering and Technology». Specifically, in the subject area of mechanical engineering, aeronautics, and manufacturing, the institution ranked in the 451–500 range globally and took 2nd place in Ukraine; in the field of computer science and information systems, it ranks 5th in the country and in the global 751–850 range. In terms of the number of ranked subjects, the university ranked 4th among the 12 Ukrainian universities represented in the ranking. In addition to its traditional leadership in engineering, NTU «KhPI» is demonstrating growth in the natural sciences and the field of «Social Sciences and Management». The development of these disciplines, combined with the university’s classical technical foundation, paves the way for broader international recognition.
In the QS subject rankings, NTU «KhPI» has once again confirmed its position as one of Ukraine’s leading technical universities. It should be noted that, based on the results of the state accreditation conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in 2025, the university ranked first among 78 higher education institutions in the engineering and technology category, receiving an «A» rating, and was included in the TOP-5 Ukrainian universities in the natural sciences and mathematics category.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject have been published by the international analytics firm QS Quacquarelli Symonds since 2011 and are among the most authoritative subject-specific university rankings in the world. The ranking methodology relies on global surveys of hundreds of thousands of experts and data from the Scopus database. It is based on five key indicators, including academic and employer reputation, as well as scientometric data—publication citations and the H-index. Additionally, the level of international research collaboration is taken into account, and the weighting of indicators varies depending on the field of study. The ranking is designed to help prospective students choose universities and educational programs, as well as to provide an objective tool for comparing the quality of education and research in different countries around the world.
