About Department

The Department of “Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering” was founded in 1931 by the eminent Ukrainian electrical engineer Pavlo Petrovych Kopnyayev, who also served as the department’s first head. Over the years, the department has been headed by: O.P. Sukachov (1932–1966), Yu.G. Dryker (1966–1969), P.M. Yegorov (1969–1974), V.L. Benin (1974–1983), V.P. Samsonov (1983–2010), O.L. Rezynkin (2010–2017) and M.M. Rezynkina (2017–2022).

Since 2022, the Department has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences Ivan Kostiukov.

The department’s researchers have made a significant contribution to the establishment and development of theoretical electrical engineering in Ukraine. The department’s academic school was founded by renowned scientists and educators: Professors P.P. Kopnyayev, O.M. Efros, O.M. Danilevsky (pioneers of the practical application of operational calculus), V.L. Benin (one of the pioneers of the use of automated control systems in the power industry), D.S. Kolobkov, and Associate Professors G.V. Ostroumov, O.P. Sukachov, and others. Through their joint efforts, the core modules of the course “Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering” were developed at NTU “KhPI” to a high scientific and methodological standard.

Today, the department employs 8 experienced lecturers, including 4 doctors of science, 2 candidates of science and 2 doctors of philosophy. The department provides students with a fundamental grounding in electrical engineering across the following specialties: G3 – Electrical Engineering; G5 – Electronics, Electronic Communications, Instrumentation and Radio Engineering; G6 – Information and Measurement Technologies; G7 – Automation, Computer-Integrated Technologies and Robotics; J7 – Railway Transport and others.

Staff members of the department develop productive research within the department’s main research areas, publish monographs, textbooks and teaching guides, take an active part in prestigious international and All-Ukrainian projects and conferences, provide consultancy services to enterprises under scientific and technical cooperation and consultancy agreements, and continuously improve their teaching skills. Every year, the department organizes the First stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in “Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering”.
