NTU «KhPI» took the 8th place among Ukrainian universities in the international Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, which evaluates the Internet’s activity of the universities. The new list is published on the website of the organizers. For its compilation, the number of pages of the educational institution’s website indexed by search engines, external links to it, site citations, the number of uploaded files to the web page and other indicators are taken into account. In total, there are more than 32.000 educational institutions from all over the world in the ranking, of which three hundred are Ukrainian.
TOP-10 universities of Ukraine according to Webometrics include: National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute»; Sumy State University; National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine; National Aviation University; Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University; Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics; National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute»; V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University; Lviv Polytechnic National University.

Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is one of the universities’ rankings in the world, according to which the degree of representation of higher education institutions on the Internet is analyzed. It has been compiled since 2004 and is published twice a year (in January and July). The rating is developed by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), which operates under the Ministry of Science and Education of Spain.
Among the Webometrics’ ranking criteria are three indicators: Visibility – 50% – the number of external sources that contain backlinks to the institution’s web pages; Openness — 10% — the number of citations by the best higher education scientists according to the Google Scholar Citations source; Excellence — 40% — the number of articles by the institution’s researchers over a five-year period, which are among the most cited according to the calculations of the Scimago database. The Presence metric, which measured the size (number of pages) of an institution’s main web domain, including all subdomains, has been abolished.
The ranking does not evaluate higher education websites by popularity or ease of use — all areas of higher education activity are analyzed with the help of webometric indicators: scientific, educational, cultural, social, sports, and others. It also takes into account the level of implementation of the university’s policy of open access to the results of scientific research, educational materials, regulatory framework, etc.

National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» is one of the leading and largest technical higher education institutions of Ukraine, founded in 1885.
