Students of NTU «KhPI» are the participants of the Erasmus+ programme in Germany

Students of Kharkiv Polytechnic took part in the Erasmus+ international academic mobility project from the European Union. Olha Lysenko and Daria Kvak successfully completed an internship at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover in Germany. During the semester, the future engineers studied at specialised and language courses and performed research. Olha worked on developing procedures for the production and testing of rolled composites at the Institute of Materials Science, while Daria studied photonics and biophysics and researched nano- and micro-materials. The project operates within the framework of the partnership agreement between the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» and the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover, which has been actively developing since 2022.

Students of Kharkiv Polytechnic Olha Lysenko and Daria Kvak completed a semester-long internship at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover in Germany. This was due to the girls’ participation in the Erasmus+ International Academic Mobility project from the European Union. At the German university, Olha Lysenko, a future engineer from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport of NTU «KhPI», studied at specialised and language courses, and at the Institute of Materials Science, she developed procedures for the production and testing of rolled composites. This experience gave Olha valuable practical skills in working with a variety of modern equipment. In addition, she became a participant in the double degree programme, which will allow her to simultaneously receive a high-quality higher education at NTU «KhPI» and a European university.

Daria Kvak, a student of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Modelling, Applied Physics and Mathematics of NTU «KhPI», was working on her bachelor’s diploma at the University of Hannover. She studied photonics in the lectures of Professor Boris Chichkov and biophysics in the classes of Professor Stefan Kalies. The future engineer obtained experience in the laboratory, where she studied nano- and micro-materials using modern equipment. During the language courses, Daria significantly improved her level of English.

Thus, in the summer of 2024, Mykhailo Bologov, a student of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Modelling, Applied Physics and Mathematics of NTU «KhPI», will start his internship at the University of Hannover. He will work on the practical part of his bachelor’s diploma.

We would like to note that the cooperation between the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» and the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover has been actively developing under the partnership agreement since 2022. For example, in the autumn of 2023, Mykhailo Moskalets, professor of physics of metals and semiconductors’ department at NTU «KhPI»  visited the German university. The visit of the Kharkiv Polytechnic scientist helped to organize meetings of our students with professors of the German university, study tours of the physics laboratory and the identification of additional research tasks for future engineers.

It should be noted that the Erasmus+ project opens up new horizons of academic growth and professional development for students. They not only acquire quality knowledge and practical skills, but also learn to work in international teams, interact with representatives of different cultures and communicate effectively. An important component of the programme is the independence and initiative of students, as they personally plan their studies, choose courses and research projects. This encourages them to develop themselves and constantly strive for knowledge. The experience which they obtained by working in foreign laboratories and participating in international research projects significantly increases the chances of future engineers to succeed in their future careers. The cultural aspect of the Erasmus+ programme is also quite intense and diverse. Interesting travels, learning about the history, traditions and everyday life of other countries create a solid foundation for the development of tolerance, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence in the international community.

Note:

ERASMUS+ is the European Union’s international cooperation with other countries of the world  in the fields of education, youth and sport. Its aim is to support the educational, professional and personal development of citizens in the EU and beyond to contribute to sustainable growth, quality jobs and social cohesion, to develop innovation and strengthen European identity and active citizenship. The programme provides opportunities for educational and academic mobility in education and for young people, projects and partnerships, strategy development and cooperation, professional networks and open resources.

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover (Leibniz Universität Hannover) was founded in 1831 in the city of Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany. It is the second largest university in this federal state, is a member of the TU9 scientific and technical community (the largest technical universities in Germany), and a member of CESAER, the association of leading technical universities in Europe. Students receive their education at the following faculties: landscape sciences and architecture, geodesy and civil engineering, management and economics, computer sciences and electronics, law, humanities, mechanical engineering, physics and mathematics, and natural sciences. More than 29.000 students come from around the world.
