Almost 100 Ukrainian first-year students of Kharkiv Polytechnic took part in a meeting with the rectors of the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» and the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg – OVGU (Germany). They had a unique opportunity to communicate with the heads of these leading European higher education institutions, Professor Yevgen Sokol and Professor Jens Strakelian, and ask them questions. These boys and girls, who were forced to leave Ukraine for Germany as a result of the war, will start their studies in the winter semester of this year. They became participants of the DSG:2 double diploma program launched by NTU «KhPI» and OVGU.
We would like to remind you that the DSG:2 project offers a profitable alternative: for one year, Ukrainian secondary school graduates take distance learning at Kharkiv Polytechnic, while improving their German skills at language courses at the university. After that, when they reach the B1 level, they will be able to start their studies at the University of Magdeburg starting in the winter semester.
«At distance learning at NTU «KhPI», students study basic technical subjects and German. In the second year, they will be enrolled in regular bachelor’s programs at OVGU, where they will study from four to four and a half years offline, said Martin Volter, professor at the Institute of Electric Power Systems at the University of Magdeburg.
Note:
The Double Diploma Program DSG:2 is a complex educational support program for Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave Ukraine and are now living in Germany or other EU countries. Given the features of the European education system, in most cases Ukrainian refugees and school graduates do not have the opportunity to enter universities directly after graduating from a Ukrainian school. In order to participate in the DSG:2 program and be enrolled in a German university, a school graduate needs to enter the first year of study at NTU «KhPI» and start studying in a distance learning format. After completing the first year, the program participants are enrolled in the first year of a German university and begin their studies in Germany as full German students. The program includes moving to Magdeburg and living in a dormitory
The double diploma program DSG:2, implemented by the National Technical University «KhPI» and the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg, was launched in June 2022. It is aimed at Ukrainian applicants who are in Germany. The priority areas of study include electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering. In 2023, 38 students of different specialties of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute participated in this program.
