NTU «KhPI» improved its indicators in the world university ranking THE WUR 2025

NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» for the 12th year in a row continues to enter the list of the best universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR). According to the results of THE WUR 2025, Kharkiv Polytechnic entered the 17 higher education institutions of Ukraine represented in the rating. Of the seventeen criteria by which universities are analyzed, NTU«KhPI» improved its performance in the subjects of «Research Quality» «Industry» and «International Outlook», which led to an increase in its overall assessment. In total, the rating includes more than two thousand universities from 115 countries of the world. The list was headed by Oxford University (UK).

According to the results of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) 2025, the National Technical University «Kharkov Polytechnic Institute» took 1501 + place. In total, THE WUR 2025 includes 2095 universities from 115 countries, including seventeen Ukrainian universities.

According to THE WUR rating, the analysis of the activities of higher education institutions consists of 17 indicators, which are combined into five subjects. The weightiest are the following criteria:

  • Reputation of teaching – 15%, subject «Educational environment»;
  • Scientific reputation – 18%; subject «Research environment»:
  • Impact of citation – 15%, subject «Research Quality»

Experts note that NTU «KhPI» in THE WUR 2025 rating has improved its position in several indicators, which led to an increase in its scores in three out of five subjects and, accordingly, to an improvement in the total score. These subjects are:  «Research Quality», «Industry» and «International Outlook». As for two more criteria: «Teaching Environment» and «Research Environment», the university retained its last year’s position. The best areas of development of Kharkiv Polytechnic were recognized: «Teaching Environment» and «International Outlook», according to which it was ranked 1089th and 1483rd in the world, respectively.

In addition to NTU «KhPI» the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 included 16 more Ukrainian HEIs: Sumy State University, Bogomolets National Medical University,Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Kharkiv Aviation Institute, Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, Lviv Polytechnic National University, National Aviation University, National Technical University of Ukraine – Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University, Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Uzhhorod National University, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University.

The best universities in the world according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 became: Oxford University (UK), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and Harvard University (USA).

World University Rankings by the British agency Times Higher Education is the largest and most diverse global university ranking today. Together with the Shanghai Ranking and QS, it is considered one of the most authoritative in the world. The table of evaluation criteria includes 17 indicators that measure the effectiveness of the university in five major subjects: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and cooperation with industry. The most important indicators are the following: teaching reputation – 15%; scientific reputation – 18%; impact of citations – 15%.

This year, the number of higher education institutions that submitted their data for consideration increased to 3000, including 55 from Ukraine (thirteen more than last year). The final list, after analyzing the activities, includes 2095 higher education institutions from 115 countries, including seventeen Ukrainian ones.

National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» is one of the leading and largest technical universities in Ukraine, founded in 1885. Today, NTU «KhPI» consists of 10 educational and research institutes, 103 departments, where more than 15 thousand students study.
