NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnical Institute» is expanding its cooperation with the Slovak University of Technology

A delegation from the NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» (NTU «KhPI») held working meetings with the leadership of the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava. The key outcome was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Department of Steam Generator Engineering at NTU «KhPI» and the Institute of Nuclear and Physical Engineering at STU. The agreement provides for a five-year collaboration in the field of nuclear energy, the development of educational materials and reactor technologies, and academic mobility. Cooperation with the STU Institute of Power Engineering was also agreed upon, specifically regarding the involvement of NTU «KhPI» specialists in teaching specialized courses. The visit took place with the support of the NURECAB project’s mobility program.

Thanks to the support of the NURECAB project’s mobility program, Kharkiv Polytechnic is expanding its scientific cooperation with leading European universities, thereby strengthening the integration of Ukrainian researchers into the European research community. One of the practical outcomes of this collaboration was a visit by representatives of the Department of Steam Generator Engineering at the Institute of Energy, Electronics, and Electromechanics of NTU «KhPI» to the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava. The delegation included Associate Professor Valerii Kavercev and Assistant Professor Vadym Dyagilev. The event was aimed at developing partnerships between Ukrainian and European universities, expanding cooperation, and supporting young researchers.

A delegation from NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» (NTU «KhPI») held a working meeting with Andrzej Bubenc, Associate Dean for International Relations at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at STU, and Peter Bokes, Director of the Institute of Nuclear and Physical Engineering at the same faculty. The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Department of Steam Generator Engineering at NTU «KhPI» and the Institute of Nuclear and Physical Engineering at STU. The document was signed by Department Head Oleksandr Yefimov and Institute Director Peter Bokes. The agreement is valid for five years and provides for joint research in the field of nuclear energy, the development of educational materials on nuclear energy, the advancement of technologies for reactor facilities—particularly VVER-type core components—as well as the expansion of academic mobility for students and faculty.

Separately, the delegation held a meeting with representatives of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Slovak University and its Institute of Power Engineering. During the discussions, agreements were reached regarding the involvement of specialists from NTU «KhPI» in teaching specialized courses at the faculty, as well as the further development of academic exchanges, particularly in the field of power engineering.

The signed Memorandum and the agreements reached between NTU «KhPI» and the departments of the Slovak University of Technology solidify the partnership between the universities and open up opportunities for further cooperation.

Note:

The NURECAB Mobility Program is a tool designed to support international academic cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of nuclear research and education. It funds the participation of Ukrainian researchers, faculty members, and students in international events aimed at developing professional contacts and integrating into European research networks. Implementation period: January 1, 2025 – July 31, 2026.

The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) is Slovakia’s leading public technical university, founded in 1937. It is the largest technical university in the country and one of the key scientific and educational centers in Central Europe. The university comprises 7 faculties and several institutes covering the main fields of engineering, information technology, architecture, and natural sciences. The student body numbers approximately 11.000–12.000. In international rankings, STU is ranked among the top 1.000–1.200 universities in the world (QS World University Rankings) and consistently maintains its position among the leading technical universities in Slovakia and the region.

The Department of Steam Generator Construction at NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» (NTU «KhPI») is one of the university’s leading research and educational centers in the field of thermal and nuclear power engineering. The department has established research areas related to the modeling and improvement of power plants at nuclear and thermal power stations, the development of resource-saving and environmentally safe technologies, as well as the enhancement of nuclear power equipment efficiency. Research is conducted in close collaboration with energy companies and international scientific partners, ensuring a high level of applied relevance of the results. The department is part of the Institute of Energy, Electronics, and Electromechanics at NTU «KhPI». The educational program combines fundamental engineering training with a practical focus on working with power plants, particularly nuclear power plant equipment. A visit by a delegation from the department to the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) took place in February 2026 as part of the NURECAB mobility program.
