Students from NTU «KhPI» won six medals at the European Armwrestling and Para-Armwrestling Championships. As part of the Ukrainian national team, Yurii Bida won gold and bronze medals, Anatolii Potomkin brought the team silver and bronze, and Valeriia Pyliuk won two bronze medals. The tournament was held in Cluj-Napoca (Romania). More than 1,000 athletes from 30 countries took part in the competition.
Six medals of various denominations were won by students of NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» at the European Armwrestling and Para-Armwrestling Championships. Yurii Bida, a master’s student at the Department of Computer Modeling and Metal Forming at NTU «KhPI», won gold and bronze medals in the weight category up to 100 kg. Anatolii Potomkin, a student at the Department of Physical Education at NTU «KhPI», won silver and bronze medals in the weight category up to 70 kg. Valeriia Pyliuk, a master’s student at the Department of Heat Engineering and Energy Efficient Technologies at NTU «KhPI», who competed in the weight category up to 80 kg, added two bronze medals to the medal collection of the Ukrainian national team.
Talented sportsmen from Kharkiv Polytechnic are trained by Honored Coaches of Ukraine – Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education at NTU «KhPI» Volodymyr Petrenko and Senior Lecturer of the same department Oleksandr Petrenko.

The European Armwrestling and Para Armwrestling Championships took place on 2–6 June 2025 in Cluj-Napoca (Romania). Over 1,000 athletes from 30 countries took part in the competition.
The first arm wrestling club in Kharkiv was created at the National Technical University «KhPI» in 1992. The initiator of its creation and the first coach was Volodymyr Petrenko, a lecturer at the Department of Physical Education at Kharkiv Polytechnic. This event became significant in the sporting life of Ukraine. Since then, students from Kharkiv Polytechnic have won over 300 medals of various kinds at European and world championships. These include, for example, the first world champion in arm wrestling in the history of Ukraine, Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine Dmytro Bezkorovainy, one of the most titled athletes in the world, 20-time European and world champion, Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine Rustam Babaev, and others. Today, future champions are trained by Honored Coaches of Ukraine, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute Volodymyr Petrenko and Senior Lecturer of the same department Oleksandr Petrenko.
