A researcher from NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» is Ukraine’s only representative at a large-scale conference in Norway

Tetyana Shmatko, a professor in the Department of Higher Mathematics at the National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» (NTU «KhPI»), represented Ukraine at one of the world’s most prestigious forums in the field of composite materials — the 22nd International Conference ECCM22, held in Oslo (Norway). She was the sole representative of Ukraine at this major scientific event. The researcher from Kharkiv Polytechnic University presented the results of her research into cutting-edge materials that could find applications in the aerospace industry and other high-tech sectors. The conference brought together over 1.700 leading scientists and specialists from countries across Europe, Asia, North America and South America.

In her presentation, Tetyana Shmatko, a professor in the Department of Higher Mathematics at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport, NTU «KhPI», presented the results of research using the RFM method to analyse plates and thin shells made of metamaterials. During the conference, participants discussed issues of sustainable development, breakthrough technologies and new areas of application for modern materials in the aerospace, automotive, energy and maritime sectors, as well as in infrastructure and sport. The latest research on modelling, composite mechanics and digital innovations was also presented. Particular attention was paid to artificial intelligence technologies, process monitoring, quality control and functional materials. The conference was organised by the Laboratory for Advanced and Environmentally Friendly Engineering Materials (ASEMlab) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). ECCM is one of Europe’s leading scientific forums in the field of composite materials and structures, and serves as a platform for advancing research, fostering innovation and strengthening collaboration between the academic community and industry.

The participation of Tetyana Shmatko, a professor at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, in ECCM22 was made possible by her work on the international project NATO G6176, «Composite Metamaterials for Aerospace Structures – CoMetA». A research team from NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», led by Professor Lidiya Kurpa, is carrying out the project as part of NATO’s «Science for Peace and Security» (SPS) programme. It should be noted that in early 2026, Professor Tetyana Shmatko was elected a member of the National Committee of Ukraine on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.

Note:

The 22nd International Conference on Composite Materials (ECCM22) took place on 21–25 June 2026 in Oslo (Norway).
